The global automotive industry remained firmly led by traditional giants in 2025, with Toyota once again securing the top position after selling more than 11 million vehicles worldwide. Volkswagen Group and Hyundai Motor Group retained second and third place respectively, highlighting the continued strength of established multinational manufacturers.
However, the most significant development came from China. BYD, SAIC Motor and Geely Holding Group all ranked among the world’s top ten automakers, reflecting the rapid internationalization of China’s automotive sector. Together, the three Chinese groups sold nearly 13 million vehicles globally, supported by strong demand for electric vehicles and expanding overseas operations.
Among the top ten, Geely recorded the strongest growth rate, while BYD continued to narrow the gap with traditional global competitors. The performance underscores how electrification is reshaping the industry’s competitive landscape, creating new opportunities for emerging automotive powers.
Meanwhile, several established manufacturers posted flat or declining sales, illustrating the challenges of transitioning toward electric mobility while maintaining profitability in mature markets. As global EV adoption accelerates, future rankings are expected to become increasingly influenced by technological innovation, battery supply chains and international market expansion.
